To Multi-Task or not to Multi-Task?
Since I usually uni-task while working on a piece of Art I chose to multi-task while drawing this ceramic vase. This may look like a rough draft to someone who does a lot of drawing, but for me this is pretty detailed. I spent 30 minutes working on this drawing and at the same time I watched TV, got myself a snack, and talked to my spouse. I'm sure it took longer with the interruptions but I can't tell if it would have been done better without them. It would be easier to multi-task while drawing then while working with other mediums like ceramics but I think after doing this exercise I still prefer to get fully involved in what I'm doing and not have many distractions. Some activities or processes included in Art lesson planning may involve multi-tasking as long as they are not distracting to each other or they switch back and forth between activities. Becoming proficient at some mediums in Art may take some complete concentration for a period of time, like learning to center a ball of clay on the wheel. This time can be in short intervals but it may be a good experience for students that are used to multi-tasking to do something that takes their full concentration.

Uni-taskers unite!!! ; ) Drawing is something I have to work really hard at, so I know exactly what you mean when you say that your drawing is pretty detailed....I kept thinking the exact same thing when I was creating my own.
ReplyDeletegood points - and great drawing (especially when you aren't used to working with distractions).
ReplyDeleteI agree that concentration is key when drawing. I find it easier to concentrate and not second guess myself when I'm plugged into music though. Way to experience the full multi task world and incorporate food!
